Schools in Syria
Edition 6
The Information Management Unit (IMU) issued the 6th edition of its annual report entitled “Schools in Syria 2021” to shed the light on the status of the education sector in all areas outside the Syrian regime’s control, and the growing needs and priorities of the schools and students given the fact that the aforementioned are still heavily affected by the ongoing war in Syria. A group of the educational cluster’s members composed of 12 humanitarian organization collaborated in data collection process (Hurras Network, OSRA Orphan Sponsorship & Relief Association, Olive Branch, IHSAN Relief & development, MIDAD, BONYAN Organization, SHAFAK, ATAA Humanitarian Relief, Saed Charity Association, Ghiras Alnahda, Mercy Without Limits and people In Need), the education cluster of Gazientap/ Turkey coordinated the participatory work conducted with those organizations; and revised the final version of the report adding several comments and suggestions.
This report covers 3,685 schools within 69 sub-districts in 5 governorates. The number of collected forms on the status of the assessed schools is 25,615 e-surveys, 21,930 of which have been conducted with students, their parents, teachers and school principals. The 6th edition includes elaborate information on the functional schools’ buildings, water, sanitation and hygiene, school supplies, schooling stages, school days, curricula, certificates, students and teachers along with their needs, psychological support, students with disability, policies and procedures governing the educational process, non-functional schools, methods and measures to prevents COVID-19 virus in addition to the priorities and recommendations. The current edition also presents a comparison between the results of this edition and those of the previous editions with regard to several aspects.
